Who We Are & What We Do
The Carrie Tingley Foundation obtains funds and other resources which support the efforts of Carrie Tingley Hospital. Carrie Tingley Hospital is one of many healthcare facilities and programs under the umbrella of the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. The Hospital provides health care needs for New Mexico children and adolescents under the age of 21 who require long-term medical and therapeutic care. The ultimate goal of the Foundation is to enhance the ability of Carrie Tingley Hospital to help children and their families realize greater independence and enjoyment in life.
It all began with ...
CARRIE WOOSTER TINGLEY was a bright, capable woman with a big heart and an ongoing desire to help the poor, the sick, and the afflicted. In 1910 Carrie and Clyde Tingley moved from Ohio to Albuquerque, with the hope that New Mexico's climate would help Carrie, who was a tuberculosis patient.
The Tingleys lived a modest life, but they still spent much of their time helping and comforting the sick, and ensuring that disabled children had access to medical care and rehabilitation. When Clyde became Governor, the Tingleys were able to accomplish even more. On Saturday, May 29, 1937, in Hot Springs, New Mexico, they dedicated a hospital for children with polio. Carrie Tingley Hospital now serves children with many types of disabling conditions and remains faithful to its founders' vision: to help disabled children make full use of their talents and abilities.

Since 1937, Carrie Tingley Hospital has provided care to children with chronic physical impairments and developmental disabilities. It is widely known for orthopedic surgery, prosthetics and orthotics technology and fabrication, and rehabilitation services. In addition, our faculty and staff hold multidisciplinary clinics throughout the state caring for hundreds of children with specialized needs in rural areas.
