The philosophy behind conductive education is simple: Children with cerebral palsy have the capacity to learn and train their bodies to overcome physical challenges.
Conductive Education was developed over the past 50 years at the Peto Institute for Conductive Education in Budapest, Hungary. Conductive Education is gaining popularity in many progressive nations including Canada, Great Britain and the United States.
In Hungary, where Conductive Education is practiced full-time in the school system, 70 percent of the people with CP walk. In the US, about 30 percent of people with CP walk.
However, full time centers are rare in this country and treatments are not covered by insurance or State and Federally funded programs. Thus, the cost of Conductive Education is born by the individual families who must often rely on the generosity of the community.
