Thanks to the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation. They were generous enough to send the Turbo Wheelers to the Desert Challenge Games 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona, over the Memorial Day weekend. There were seven families, two coaches and one referee that went. All the families came out to cheer for the Turbo Wheelers and they had banners saying, "Go Turbo Wheelers" and "Look Out Arizona. Here comes ... The Turbo Wheelers".
The players and their families have waited a very long time to see their team play in this tournament. It was wonderful to see their faces lit up when the Turbo Wheelers won their first game ever! Of course, they also felt what it was like to lose. In their very first tournament, the Turbo Wheelers won 2 games and lost 2 games. I think that it was one of the best experiences as a team and as a family member, but most of all for the seven players in the tournament. We all wanted the team to do great and most of all we wanted them to have fun, and that is exactly what they did.

The coaches would like to have a soccer clinic sometime in the spring or summer of 2002. We would invite all children in power wheelchairs to come to this clinic. We are trying to get more teams together in New Mexico and we will be looking for volunteers to help coach new teams. There will be more information about the soccer clinic coming out later.
We believe no one should sit on the sidelines!
All of the volunteers, players, coaches and parents have worked very hard to keep this team together. It has taken dedication from everyone to make this team the first "Power Soccer" team in New Mexico.
We would again like to thank the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation for everything that they have done for the Turbo Wheelers. We sure do appreciate you.
